The SAOT Summer Academy 2020 took place online for the first time due to the ongoing COVID 19 crisis. In the last week of July 2020, the participants from both SAOT and MAOT could choose between two different courses. Course A, held by Dr.-Ing. Florian Klämpfl, Moritz Späth and Benjamin Lengenfelder, focused on the topic of “Photoacoustic imaging for biomedical applications: basics, state of the art and current research”. It introduced the participants to the basics of PAI and current research topics. At the last day of the course, the students were invited to hold a short presentation about a specific PAI topic.

Course B gave the participants the opportunity to discover the fundamentals of optical design using the program OpticStudio from ZEMAX. Dr. Volker Türck introduced them to key concepts for the simulation of optical imaging systems and enabled them to test their newly acquired knowledge by allowing them to work on exercises for themselves.
