On Wednesday, 16th May 2012 Prof. Gerhard Leuchs was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by Dr. Wolfgang Heubisch, the Bavarian State Minister of Science, Research and the Arts. Dr. Heubisch emphasized Prof. Leuchs’ outstanding research contributions in optics as well as his efforts during the foundation of the Max-Planck Institute for the Science of Light.

Prof. Leuchs holds the Chair of Optics and is a director of the Institute of Optics, Information and Photonics at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). He is also a director of the Max-Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL) in Erlangen and SAOT PI.
