To monitor the material’s topography in laser machining, optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a promising imaging technique, which goes beyond the state-of-the-art methods like laser triangulation. In his latest publication, Thomas Will identified relevant Features for image processing of OCT images for seam tracking applications in laser welding. Further, he discusses the potential of detecting these features for different joint configurations and their suitability for real-time seam tracking.

Thomas Will works at the Institute of Photonic Technologies, his supervisor is Michael Schmidt. The original publication can be found in the Journal of Laser Publications.
