Leaving the pandemic behind, PhD students from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and Princeton University met again to jointly learn about lasers and photonics.

Erlangen, June 2023 – There’s nothing like personal exchange, especially in high complex fields like laser technology or photonics applications. After a COVID break of almost four years, eight doctoral candidates from FAU and Princeton University again met for a week of intense collaboration and discussion on the latest topics of the field. The PRISMS Lasers and Photonics Summer School, hosted by the Erlangen Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT), gave insights into current research topics, industry perspectives and career development. As a highlight, the participants visited the Laser World of Photonics in Munich, the leading trade fair for the photonics industry. They attended the affiliated congress and presented the results of the summer-school to each other.

‘I am very glad that such a personal exchange is possible again. For the initiation of joint interdisciplinary projects, face-to-face meetings are essential for a solid and trusting collaboration,’ says Prof. Dr. Michael Schmidt, SAOT coordinator.
